biography
I found my artistic home when I had the privilege of viewing the original illuminated manuscript of Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi’s “Masnevi” in Konya. The refined and beautifully proportioned “biomorphic” motifs, in gold and precious colours, ignited in my heart the desire to devote myself to the study of this art.
Since this poignant moment, my focus has been on studying the design language of 13th century Seljuk architecture, as well as 15th century Timurid and Ottoman illuminated manuscripts, with the intent of gleaning the most sophisticated and enlightened examples within this artistic heritage.
My vocation and passion is on the study of these patterns through intentional and profound understanding of their proportions, rhythmic unfolding, harmonic placement and symbolic reference. In “collecting” these motifs, my research deepens in its purpose.
Having expanded my artistic practice with the study of ‘bucchero’ ceramics - an ancient Etruscan technique - I am able to realise large-scale bas-relief installations, bringing a contemporary context to my work.
Originally from Canada, I now work and live in Italy.
